A 22-year-old Margate woman was arrested after Margate police said she helped carry out a bank scam that took more than $33,000 from a senior in Arizona.
Quanaisia Quiana Kinder faces charges of grand theft from a person 65 or older and organized fraud, according to a Margate Police Department arrest report. The case began in April, when someone contacted a woman in Buckeye, Arizona, and told her that her bank account had been compromised. Believing the warning, the woman followed instructions to deposit $33,000 into a Chase account. She later realized she had been scammed and contacted Buckeye police.
Buckeye detectives obtained a search warrant for bank records and traced the deposit to Kinder. They handed the case to Margate investigators, who confirmed her involvement.
According to an arrest affidavit, Kinder told a detective during a November 5 interview at her Margate home that she knew the money was stolen and was following someone else’s instructions. She said she took cashier’s checks to an Amscot and sent money to another person. The affidavit also says she kept some of the money for herself.
Kinder was taken to the Broward County Main Jail.
