A Fort Lauderdale man faces an armed robbery charge after Broward County deputies said he took $60 in cash from an employee of a Boost Mobile store in Tamarac during a dispute over a cellphone refund.
According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Michael Q. Randle, 53, walked into the store at 5100 West Commercial Boulevard demanding a refund and a new phone for a transaction from the week before. Deputies were called to the store on Nov. 3 after a 911 call reporting the robbery.
The employee told deputies he offered Randle a new phone if he paid $30 in cash. Randle became upset, pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at the employee, the report said. He demanded $60 and told the worker, “Or this is happening.”
The employee said he was scared and handed over the money. Randle fled on foot, the report said. Deputies later found him at a nearby home on Bayberry Lane and took him to the Broward County Main Jail.
The arrest report describes the case as an armed robbery, and the charge is an allegation at this stage.
