King tide flooding returned to Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, a week after high water began affecting roads across South Florida. Cameras from 7News captured water on a road west of the Las Olas bridge Thursday afternoon, with cars moving slowly through it.
The peak of the cycle came Tuesday, and the tides are expected to finish by the end of the week. The high tide Thursday was at 11 a.m., and low-lying coastal communities flooded afterward.
Fort Lauderdale city officials closed some roads to traffic at various points during the week. As of Thursday afternoon, it was unclear whether any more closures were planned.
South of the county line, 7Skyforce footage showed southbound lanes of Collins Avenue near 53rd Street flooded after water broke through the seawall. A coastal flood advisory for Miami-Dade and Broward counties runs through Friday evening, and a coastal flood warning is in effect for the Florida Keys through Friday morning.
A visitor named Philip said the flooding caught him off guard. He said the area was dry about an hour and a half before he saw the water rise, something he does not see at home.
