Passengers with JetBlue flights out of South Florida for October 13 and 14 were alarmed Wednesday when they were told their trips had been canceled. Many were then told to rebook and ran into trouble doing so.
The flights were not canceled. A computer glitch apparently removed them from the system, and the seemingly canceled flights were reinstated later in the day. A check by BocaNewsNow.com found multiple flight options out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport for both dates.
In a statement to BocaNewsNow.com, JetBlue said some customers with travel planned for October 13 and 14 may have seen their flights listed as canceled. “This was an error and we apologize for any confusion,” the airline said. It said the original itineraries have been reinstated for affected customers.
The episode matters to travelers who rely on South Florida airports, particularly as JetBlue expands its presence in Fort Lauderdale, where it is a dominant carrier. The airline has also taken over many routes once flown by Spirit Airlines. Travelers with bookings on those dates should check their confirmations directly with the airline.
