A Delray Beach man was arrested after police responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment, according to an arrest affidavit. The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 26, though the affidavit was reported Monday.

Officers said they heard yelling and a loud bang from inside the unit after reaching the door. Police identified the man who answered as 30-year-old Joseph Thomas Curran Jr. Investigators allege he tried to shut the door on officers, then pushed one in the chest. Officers took him to the ground and detained him. The officer suffered a scratch below his eye and a minor knee injury, the affidavit said.

Inside, officers found a woman with facial injuries, bruising and a laceration. Two people inside had called for help, saying they were in distress. Curran’s father was also found in the apartment and taken to Delray Medical Center for treatment.

A witness told investigators that an argument turned physical. Authorities allege Curran struck the woman multiple times in the face.

Curran faces charges including aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability, battery on a law enforcement officer, simple battery, resisting an officer with violence, and violation of probation or home detention.
