Coral Springs resident Tamar N. Hamilton has been elected to serve as a circuit judge in Broward County. She will be sworn in in January 2027 and join the 17th Judicial Circuit, which serves the county and brings more than 12 years of legal experience to the bench.

Chief Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips welcomed Hamilton to the court. “We are pleased to have her join our team and look forward to all she will contribute to the Circuit,” Phillips said.

Born in Jamaica, Hamilton has lived in Broward County for more than 25 years. She is an attorney, a special magistrate and an adjunct professor of law at St. Thomas University College of Law. Her practice has covered civil litigation, real estate and probate. She graduated with honors from St. Thomas University School of Law and is the immediate past president of the Jamaican American Bar Association.

In a statement, Hamilton called the win a reflection of faith, perseverance and community. She said she plans to uphold the rule of law and administer justice “without fear, favor, or prejudice.”

The 17th Judicial Circuit is the second-largest in Florida, with 90 judges. It operates four courthouses, including the main courthouse in Fort Lauderdale and regional courthouses in Deerfield Beach, Plantation and Hollywood.
