Flooding in the Briar Bay community of West Palm Beach has stranded residents, with cars stuck in standing water and many people forced to walk to nearby stores.

Residents told WPBF 25 News that water has reached doorsteps and ponds have overflowed. One resident said the water rose to her door overnight and described the situation as a nightmare. Another said she has been unable to get to work and does not know how she will drive her electric car while the streets remain flooded.

Residents blamed the flooding on two nearby lakes that have merged and spilled into the street. Abandoned vehicles now sit at the community entrance, according to one resident.

City officials said crews are clearing storm drains and working to address standing water. Residents who need help with flooding can call (561) 822-2222.
