The City of Boca Raton has broken ground on the Jeffery Street Railroad-Highway Grade Crossing, a new public crossing just east of NW 2nd Avenue, where Clint Moore ends. The crossing will replace the former NW 28th Street crossing.
City officials describe it as an important east-west link for northeast Boca Raton. They say it will reconnect neighborhoods on either side of the rail corridor and make travel easier for residents, visitors and businesses.
According to the city, police, fire rescue and other first responders should gain better emergency response capabilities. Drivers can expect better traffic circulation, and the city expects the crossing to support economic activity and future investment in the area. It will also provide access to North Park, which is still under construction.
A $2 million Congressional Community Project Funding award will help pay for the work. The city is coordinating the project with Florida East Coast Railway, LLC, and the Florida Department of Transportation. Residents can find more details on the city’s Jeffery Street webpage.
