Five days after historic rainfall flooded parts of the Treasure Coast, residents along Hyline Drive in Jensen Beach are still living with several feet of standing water inside their homes. Floodwater has reached mailboxes and entered most houses on the road, and the street can only be reached by boat or kayak.

Longtime resident Linda Weisbecker said the flood has ruined decades of belongings. She said her home still holds several feet of water, which has kept her from starting cleanup. “Our main goal is to get this water off so we can get in and start getting things done,” she said.

Lisa French, who lives down the road, said her home stayed dry during Monday’s heavy rain. Water kept rising across the neighborhood, though, and reached her house two days later. She is worried about mold and about how much of the structure will have to be torn out.

The neighborhood sits near the Savannas Preserve, where land can drain south when the surrounding ground becomes saturated. Martin County officials told WPBF 25 News that crews will address the flooding and evaluate local watersheds to see whether they can handle the runoff. The source did not give a timeline for when the water will recede.
