Police are searching for the people responsible for smashing about 10 windows at Hellenic, a restaurant in Coral Springs. The owner, Nikol Zarbalas, said she found the damage on Saturday morning while getting ready to open.

Zarbalas said the glass appeared to have been broken with a rubber mallet, and the shards landed inside the restaurant. She does not have exterior cameras, but the business next door does. Its footage showed a large cloud of smoke. Zarbalas said a detective believes someone tried to throw a smoke bomb into the restaurant, but it bounced back and went off outside.

Rather than close, Zarbalas and her employees swept up the glass and opened for the day, with customers expected within hours. The restaurant has since replaced the windows with temporary plexiglass.

Hellenic opened more than two months ago. Zarbalas said the attack hurt, but she said she and her team plan to keep going and asked the same question many residents would: “Who would do this?”
