The City of Miami Beach and VFW Post 3559 will host the 18th annual Veterans Day parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with the procession starting at 11:11 a.m. on Ocean Drive between Fifth Street and 15th Street. The city says it is the largest parade of the day in South Florida. Veteran and military groups, marching bands, dance performances, local businesses and community organizations are scheduled to take part.

The start time matches the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the armistice ending World War I took effect. This year’s theme is “Forever Honored,” and the event is part of the city’s America 250 programming.

At 12:15 p.m., the ceremony moves to Lummus Park. It includes a color presentation by police and fire honor guards, a 21-gun salute, taps and a wreath-laying. Officials from U.S. Southern Command are scheduled to speak, and Miami Beach Girl Scouts will unveil the restored flag box at Fire Station No. 4.

Residents who want to take part before the holiday can submit letters or videos through the city’s online campaign at miamibeachfl.gov/america250, starting Nov. 2. On Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, people can drop off sealed-free thank-you letters for active-duty members at the Parks and Recreation tent at Fifth Street and Ocean Drive, and receive a commemorative hat while supplies last.
