Deerfield Beach is turning leftover Halloween pumpkins into an evening event. The city’s Movies in the Park on Friday, Nov. 6, at Quiet Waters Athletic Field, 4200 W. Hillsboro Blvd., opens with a Pumpkin Smash at 6 p.m.

Families can bring their old jack-o’-lanterns to smash. Filthy Organics will collect and compost every smashed pumpkin, the city said.

After the smashing, the city will show The Wild Robot (PG) on the lawn. Residents are asked to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Free popcorn is available while supplies last, and a food truck on site will sell food.

The event is a way for residents to keep pumpkins out of the trash and enjoy an outdoor movie close to home. The full Movies in the Park lineup is posted at DFB.city/MITP.
