The City of Deerfield Beach will hold a free grand opening and ribbon-cutting for its new municipal compost site on Saturday, Nov. 14, starting at 10 a.m. at the Bernard Adams Municipal Complex, 401 SW 4th St.

The city developed the facility with Filthy Organics to turn organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. City officials say the site will keep food and yard scraps out of regional landfills and send nutrients back into the local soil.

The program includes an overview of the DFB Compost program’s environmental goals, a guided walking tour and a live demonstration of the processing machinery in operation.

City staff will be on hand with educational materials and will answer questions about household composting and other municipal green initiatives. Residents who want more information or plan to attend can email city representative H. Silverstone at hsilverstone@deerfieldbeachfl.gov.
