A Next Weather Alert is in effect Monday across South Florida as heavy rain, possible flash flooding and coastal flooding threaten the region after a wet weekend. A Flood Watch runs until 7 p.m. because ground already soaked by Sunday’s rain could struggle to absorb more downpours. Forecasters have placed the area under a level 2 risk for excessive rainfall and flash flooding.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect for potential saltwater flooding around high tide. The next high tide is expected near 3 p.m. in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and near 5 p.m. in Key West.

Morning showers give way to more widespread and intense rain in the afternoon, according to the forecast. Highs will hold in the low 80s under cloudy skies. Beachgoers and boaters face hazardous conditions, including a high risk of rip currents along Atlantic beaches and a Small Craft Advisory for Atlantic waters. No alerts are in effect for the Florida Keys.

Voters heading to the polls Tuesday should see lower rain chances as the upper-level low moves out, though scattered showers and a few storms are still possible. Highs will stay in the low 80s. Temperatures climb into the upper 80s midweek, and a cold front late in the week is expected to bring drier, less humid air for the weekend.
