Boca Raton hosted its second annual Mobility Workshop at Florida Atlantic University on Thursday, with city officials, transportation partners, residents and FAU students discussing safer streets and better transportation links across the city.
The evening opened with an exhibit hall featuring local agencies and community partners. A presentation on the city’s transportation initiatives followed.
Officials focused on connections for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and transit riders. They discussed Vision Zero, the city’s effort to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries, and its Complete Streets Policy, which calls for roads designed to serve all users.
Proposed and ongoing projects include safer pedestrian crossings, expanded bicycle connections and infrastructure upgrades. Officials acknowledged that limited road space and funding are constraints, and said projects will be ranked by safety, connectivity and community need.
FAU students presented posters with ideas for local transportation problems. They included a campus navigation app meant to improve directions and traffic flow, and physical upgrades such as safer crosswalks.
City officials said continued work with students, partners and residents will help shape future mobility projects.
