The Broward Sheriff’s Office has listed the awards its personnel and divisions earned in 2026, a roundup published under a message from Sheriff Gregory Tony. The honors came from groups across South Florida, the nation and abroad.

Among them, 24 first responders received the Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council Medal of Valor. Deputies saved a man with life-threatening injuries, and fire rescue crews revived a 3-year-old who had nearly drowned. Detective Robert Pence received the Florida Sheriffs Association Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award for finding and arresting armed escapees and rescuing a kidnapping victim.

Other honors went to Deputy Nicholas Romano for drone work that helps locate missing people and suspects, and to BSO Aviation for third place in the Teledyne FLIR Vision Award for its use of thermal imaging. Detective Mike Joo was named Broward Victim’s Rights Coalition Officer of the Year for his work on human trafficking cases.

The Purchasing Bureau earned two procurement awards from the National Procurement Institute. The Community Affairs Division and Public Information Office won five Telly Awards, including for domestic violence prevention campaigns. The agency also received the Destination Zero Officer Wellness Award for its health and peer support programs.

Sheriff Tony said the awards reflect the standards staff follow every day. The office also noted that BSO provides dispatch services for several cities in the county, including Parkland, Pembroke Pines’ neighbors Tamarac and Weston, and Pompano Beach.
