Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will vote early at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Joseph Caleb Center in Liberty City, the first of several get-out-the-vote stops with Democratic candidates before early voting ends Sunday.
Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson’s seat in Florida’s 24th Congressional District, and state Rep. Ashley Gantt, the Democratic nominee for Senate District 34, are joining her Friday. At the Caleb Center, Levine Cava plans to urge voters to reject Amendment 3.
The measure would raise the homestead exemption for non-school taxes to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028. The county estimates it would cost $385.8 million in property tax revenue in the first year and $696.7 million the year after, at current rates. Levine Cava has said the cuts would hit police, fire rescue, parks and infrastructure, and she has called the amendment “deceptive.”
A St. Pete Polls survey for Florida Politics found the amendment with 44% support, 39% opposed and 17% undecided. It needs 60% to pass.
The Mayor’s Saturday schedule includes stops in Miami Beach, Vizcaya and Coral Gables with candidates for state House and Senate seats. The weekend ends at 4 p.m. Sunday at Coral Gables Congregational Church with David Jolly, the Democratic nominee for governor.
Early voting in Miami-Dade runs through Sunday at 28 sites, open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any registered voter in the county can use any of them.
