The City of Miramar and Nova Southeastern University have launched the Miramar Autism Community Initiative, known as MACI, a pilot program aimed at strengthening support for people with autism and related developmental disabilities and their families.

Commissioner Maxwell Chambers is backing the effort, which the city said grew out of community feedback. The program focuses on autism awareness and training, help navigating resources, transition planning and employment opportunities, and more chances for social connection and community engagement.

The city is working with NSU and the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, known as CARD, on the initiative. Residents with questions can contact Dr. Ann Marie McSwain at aemcswain@miramarfl.gov.
