The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School baseball program and longtime head coach Todd Fitz-Gerald were inducted into the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame at a recent ceremony at War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale. The event was hosted by the Broward Education Foundation.
The annual ceremony recognized seven individuals and the Eagles’ six consecutive state championship teams from 2021 through 2026. The Parkland school won a state-record six straight titles, going 172-17 during that span with a 59-game winning streak. The team finished 37-1 in the postseason and capped the run with a 2-1 win over Venice in the 2026 Class 7A state championship game.
Fitz-Gerald has coached for 25 seasons and has a career record of 590-132-2. He has won eight state championships, seven of them at Stoneman Douglas, and six national titles. His players include more than 150 college scholarship recipients, 43 draft picks and eight who reached Major League Baseball.
Other honorees included former NFL player James Bostic, sports journalist David Brousseau, Nova Southeastern University basketball coach Jim Crutchfield, water polo coach Michael Goldenberg, sports content creator Cesar Lucero and former Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler. Bostic, a Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers, later served with the Coral Springs Police Department. Goldenberg coached water polo at several Broward high schools and officiated at the Tokyo Olympics.
James A. Knapp, president and CEO of the Broward Education Foundation, called the class a reflection of the talent across the county. WSVN sports anchor Josh Moser served as master of ceremonies. The hall of fame has recognized local athletes, coaches and sports leaders for 23 years.
