The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a caller who falsely claims to be a sergeant with the agency. The office said the impostor has been phoning members of the public.

Deputies advise people never to share Social Security numbers, bank details or one-time codes over the phone unless they can independently verify the request through a trusted source. Residents should be wary of calls, emails, texts or social media messages that create urgency, promise guaranteed results or push them to act quickly.

The Sheriff’s Office also recommends reviewing bank and credit card statements regularly, monitoring credit reports and using strong, unique passwords. Anyone who is unsure whether a communication claiming to come from the agency is real can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the agency’s new PBSO app, available for Apple and Android phones, using the “See Something” feature.
