Students at Space of Mind in downtown Delray Beach built their own Halloween haunted house this year, and it is open to the public on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The attraction, called SOMething Scary, is themed “Error 404: Humanity Not Found.”

Kimberly Allegro, director of business development at Space of Mind, said students used robotics, electronics, audio and video to build scenes around artificial intelligence and a future takeover by machines. Digital media coach Todd Belanca said students applied math, engineering, sound design and music to the project, and he said the goal was a storyline rather than only scares.

The haunted house is a fundraiser. Space of Mind works with Community Classroom Project, a nonprofit that funds student and culinary scholarships and workplace readiness training, according to Jack Feldman, the school’s marketing manager. Allegro described Space of Mind as a homeschool-style community serving kindergarten through 12th grade students.

The haunted house is at 102 N. Swinton Ave., near Old School Square. Tickets cost $10. A free block party and other activities are planned alongside the attraction.
