The University of Miami remained the No. 1 team in The Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday, the only team in the top spot to keep its place this week. The Hurricanes received 59 of the 70 first-place votes from the media panel, 19 more than a week earlier.
Miami routed Pittsburgh 52-23 at home in its first game as the No. 1 team since 2002. The poll shuffled heavily after three more top-10 teams lost Saturday, bringing the total to 10 losses by top-10 teams in three weeks. That ties 2007 and 1959 for the most in a three-week span in poll history.
Ohio State, which was idle, moved up to No. 2 after BYU lost at UCF and fell six spots to No. 8. Georgia climbed to No. 3, Indiana rose to No. 4 after an overtime win at Michigan, and Notre Dame slipped to No. 5. Miami, Utah and UCLA are the only unbeaten Bowl Subdivision teams left.
The Big 12 and Big Ten each placed five or more teams in the rankings, with the Big 12 tying its record of six ranked teams. The SEC led all conferences with nine ranked teams.
Florida, ranked No. 17, travels to No. 3 Georgia in Atlanta later in the season’s schedule, with Georgia having won five straight in the series.
