South Florida is in for a stretch of rough weather starting Sunday, with stronger winds, more rain and rising water levels expected through early next week, according to the WSVN 7News weather team.

Winds will pick up Sunday and stay strong Monday and Tuesday. Peak gusts are forecast in the 35 to 40 mph range, with sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph. A Small Craft Advisory covers the east coast through Sunday afternoon, followed by a Gale Warning from Sunday night through Tuesday morning.

Rain chances peak Sunday at 70%. Showers are expected in the morning, then numerous quick downpours and storms during the afternoon and evening. Forecasters said flash flooding cannot be ruled out where heavy rain falls, especially with strong onshore winds and high tides.

Monday should be drier with more sunshine, while Tuesday trends wetter with scattered to numerous showers. Rain chances drop later in the week, though passing showers are still possible.

King tides are expected to peak Monday. A Coastal Flood Watch covers the east coast Monday and Tuesday for the risk of major coastal flooding. Water levels should ease as the week goes on, after the full moon.
