Early voting started Monday in Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Indian River counties, and election officials reported good turnout on the first day.
In Palm Beach County, the supervisor of elections said about 13,000 early votes had been cast as of 1 p.m. Supervisor Wendy Sartory Link said some sites were very busy while others picked up as the day went on. Voters who want to skip the line can book an appointment, officials said.
In Indian River County, there were no lines, but all four early voting sites stayed busy. Officials said 2,685 people voted, and the county added a fourth location for this general election. St. Lucie County reported no problems.
Officials reminded voters that early voting sites are open to anyone, but Election Day voters must go to their assigned polling places. Palm Beach County officials also asked residents to consider serving as poll workers.
Early voting in Martin County begins Wednesday, and Okeechobee County starts Saturday. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is Thursday at 5 p.m.
