Students from five South Florida high schools raised $14,330 in 20 days for Kids In Distress, a South Florida nonprofit that supports children and families in need. The drive ran from Sept. 19 through Oct. 9 and ended with a donation drop-off at the organization’s facility.

The effort was led by Angelina Isaac and Sofia Feldman, co-presidents of the National Honor Society at American Heritage School Palm Beach. Students from American Heritage Palm Beach, West Boca, American Heritage Broward, Olympic Heights and Spanish River High School took part.

Along with the cash, students collected diapers, wipes, toiletries, clothing, toys and other household and children’s items. Representatives from the schools delivered the goods in person.

The drive shows how a partnership between schools can reach beyond a single campus and give a local charity direct support. Isaac and Feldman said they hope the donations help the group’s work with children and families in the community.
