The Boca Raton City Council discussed a proposed $125 million general obligation bond for the March 2027 ballot to pay for a replacement police headquarters and related facilities. After reviewing four ballot language options, council directed staff to prepare a resolution with the preferred wording. That resolution is expected back before the council on Oct. 27.

The bonds would be repaid with ad valorem taxes on all taxable property in the city. The project includes a new headquarters, an emergency communications center, evidence storage and a dedicated downtown police facility.

In other action from its Oct. 13 and 14 meetings, the Community Redevelopment Agency approved plans for The Sanborn, an eight-story private club at 100 NE 1st Avenue downtown. The 54,681-square-foot building will include members-only dining, fitness, wellness and entertainment spaces, plus a two-level underground automated parking garage.

Council also approved a site plan amendment for Park Tower at Broken Sound, at 1075 and 1095 NW Broken Sound Parkway. The plan replaces an industrial building with an eight-story residential tower of 97 apartments, 10 of them affordable units.

Council members voted to repeal an ordinance adopted in August that restricted feeding pigeons, iguanas, rats and mice. Members questioned whether the rule could be enforced.

Following Council Member Yvette Drucker’s resignation, effective Nov. 10, the council decided not to make a temporary appointment for Seat C. The seat will stay vacant until the newly elected member takes office in March 2027.
