Boca Raton Regional Hospital expects to begin welcoming patients in its new eight-story Gloria Drummond Patient Tower by the end of October, according to hospital officials. Crews are finishing the building’s final touches.
The $600 million tower adds more than 400,000 square feet to the campus and includes 216 private patient rooms, 20 operating rooms, and additional intensive care and radiology space. Two of the operating rooms have advanced imaging technology. The project has been in development for five years.
With the tower, the hospital’s licensed bed count rises to 561, making Boca Regional the largest hospital in Palm Beach County by that measure. The total also matches the 561 area code that serves Boca Raton and nearby communities.
Hospital CEO Lincoln Mendez said the newer setting and private rooms should improve the patient experience and raise patient satisfaction. He described the tower as more modern and updated in appearance.
Boca Raton Mayor Andy Thomson said access to high-quality health care supports the city’s growth and helps it keep residents and attract new ones. Hospital leaders said investment across the medical campus has topped $1 billion.
