A North Bay Village police officer who is on probation was arrested Tuesday after an alleged domestic dispute with her boyfriend, authorities said. She has since bonded out of jail.

Marcia Sangronis, a Hialeah resident, spent Tuesday night in jail following an argument with her boyfriend of two years. According to an arrest report, the argument began after the boyfriend tried to leave their apartment and said he wanted to break up. The report says Sangronis told him, “You do not get to leave.”

The victim told police that Sangronis scratched him multiple times on the arms, face and back and bit his left forearm. Police noted three bite marks on his left arm. The report also says he described past physical and emotional abuse during their relationship. The argument reportedly centered on his interest in pursuing a law enforcement career.

On Wednesday, a judge reduced the charge from aggravated battery to simple battery, a misdemeanor. Bond was set at $1,000, and Sangronis was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

North Bay Village police said Sangronis has been relieved of duty with pay. The department said it holds all personnel to the highest standards of conduct and expects full accountability for actions on and off duty.

The arrest report redacts Sangronis’ account of the incident, which she gave during questioning by Hialeah police. Her family declined to comment.
