Palm Beach County’s Department of Housing and Economic Development has set aside $4 million in State Housing Initiatives Partnership funds for its Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program, the county announced Oct. 11.

The program provides up to $100,000 per home for extremely low, very low and low-income homeowners. Eligible work includes correcting code violations, hurricane hardening such as impact windows and doors, repairs that threaten the health or safety of occupants, connecting homes to public utilities and accessibility upgrades. Officials warned that properties with unpermitted work may not qualify.

The online application portal opens Monday, Nov. 9, at noon and closes Friday, Nov. 27, at 11:59 p.m. at pbcgov.com/HED. After the window closes, 50 applications will be chosen through a random selection process.

All applicants must attend a virtual mandatory orientation before applying. Meeting details are posted on the county website, and no registration is required. Residents who need accommodations should contact the Mortgage and Housing Investments Division at (561) 233-3600 at least five business days before the portal opens. Spanish and Haitian Creole assistance is also available.

For South Florida homeowners on fixed or modest incomes, the program could help cover costly repairs ahead of the next storm season. Questions can be directed to Antoinette Prescott at (561) 233-3606 or Megan Harp at (561) 233-1294.
