The village of Wellington is considering a 180-day moratorium on applications for large-scale data centers. The proposal is scheduled for its first reading at a meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The move follows a decision by Palm Beach County commissioners last month. Commissioners approved a one-year moratorium on data center projects countywide after they denied a controversial project known as “Project Tango.”

The county’s pause gives officials a year to write permanent rules for data centers. Those rules are expected to address how the facilities affect water, power, noise and infrastructure in nearby neighborhoods.

Wellington’s proposed pause would run alongside the county effort. Residents who want to follow the vote can watch the first reading at the Tuesday meeting.
