Nearly 22,000 drivers were caught speeding by school zone cameras in Wellington during the 2025-2026 school year, according to an annual report the Village of Wellington released on its School Zone Speed Program. The tickets generated almost $1.5 million in fines.

Most of the violations, more than 5,000, happened in front of Wellington High School. The school zone near Wellington Landings Middle School recorded the fewest, with 713.

Violations peaked last October, dipped steadily and then rose again in February. The zone at Wellington High School saw the largest drop, with speeding violations falling by almost 50% during morning drop-off times.

The report also found that crashes across all of the village’s school zones declined over the same period.

For parents and drivers in Wellington, the figures show that the cameras are a regular part of the school day. Drivers who pass through those zones during drop-off and pickup should expect enforcement to continue.
