A 28-year-old man accused of stabbing his 58-year-old mother to death at a Tamarac home is being held without bond and has been ordered to undergo a mental health screening.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded around 7:45 p.m. Friday to a report of a stabbing on the 5300 block of Northwest 28th Avenue. They found Ylda Cabello-Ynocente with multiple stab wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies arrested her son, Manuel Farfan-Cabello, that night.

Farfan-Cabello appeared in bond court after his arrest and was taken to the Broward County Main Jail. A judge ordered him held without bond.

Family members described the killing as heartbreaking. A sister-in-law said Farfan-Cabello has schizophrenia.

Neighbors said they had seen him acting erratically in the area before the stabbing. One neighbor, Salvatore Napolitano, said police were often called to the corner where Farfan-Cabello yelled and screamed. He said the man knocked on doors the morning before the attack asking for $5.

The family is working to send Cabello-Ynocente’s remains back to Peru.
