Soca Fitness in North Lauderdale is turning up its workout schedule ahead of Miami Carnival this weekend and the holiday season. The studio, at 1617 S State Road 7, combines fitness with soca music and Caribbean-style dance.

Owner Paige Romans said the classes mix aerobics, total body sculpt, yoga and stretching. Sessions focus on cardio and toning, with weights and dance moves combined into one workout. She said soca’s upbeat rhythm gives the classes a positive energy.

Crystal Johnson, a regular guest, said the class is her weekly break. “It fills my soul,” she said. Mercy Diaz, who was attending her first carnival week, said the classes helped her feel ready for the events ahead.

Classes cost about $25 each, and the first class is free for new locals. Romans said the studio also offers a virtual platform open to anyone interested, including people who do not live in North Lauderdale. Participants do not need to be perfect, she said, and can simply keep moving.

For more information, visit the studio at 1617 S State Road 7 in North Lauderdale.
