Robert Hill Jr. has led the American Red Cross South Florida Region’s Greater Miami and The Keys Chapter since he was appointed executive director in September. The chapter oversees programs covering humanitarian aid, disaster preparedness, disaster response and community resilience.

Hill previously served as vice president of community impact for the American Heart Association in Miami-Dade County. In that role, he worked with health care systems, community health centers, schools, government agencies and businesses on nutrition security, chronic disease prevention and health equity. He has about two decades of experience in community health and nonprofit work.

Hill also serves as executive co-chair of the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade. Nova Southeastern University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his community service.

The Red Cross depends on volunteers and public donations, Hill said. The organization provides food and emotional support to disaster victims, teaches lifesaving skills, provides international humanitarian aid and supports military members and their families.

Hill said he plans to focus on preparedness, crisis support and partnerships with volunteers and community leaders. His full interview appears in the print or digital edition of Miami Today.
