A Port St. Lucie woman accused of stealing nearly $20,000 from a Boca Raton client pleaded guilty Wednesday, Oct. 14, in a Palm Beach County courtroom, according to court documents.
Rachel R. Albert, 57, entered the plea to one charge of exploitation of an elderly person or disabled adult. She was sentenced to 364 days in the Palm Beach County jail, with credit for 33 days already served, and will serve three years of probation.
Under the terms of her sentence, Albert must have no contact with the victim, the victim’s family or their property. She may not work as a home health aide or in any role caring for an elderly or disabled adult, including through a third party. She was also ordered to pay restitution and court costs.
The state attorney’s office declined to pursue two counts of fraudulent use of personal identification information.
A Boca Raton Police Department arrest report said that between November 2023 and October 2024, Albert had access to the checkbooks of the victim and the victim’s daughter. She wrote fraudulent checks deposited into her own bank account, totaling $15,330. The report also said she made unauthorized personal purchases of $2,711.35 on the victim’s credit card, which she had been given for necessary expenses.
