A home in Pompano Beach was riddled with bullet holes during an overnight shooting at 30th Avenue and 5th Street, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating. Sixteen bullet holes were left between the house and a van that the homeowner uses to drive children to school.

The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, told NBC6 that the gunfire woke her up. She said it sounded close to the house, as if someone were pounding on the window. She believes her son, who was home at the time, may be involved in a gang and may have been the intended target.

The Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed a motive or announced any arrests. Crime scene tape surrounded the home Wednesday morning, and evidence markers were scattered across the yard as detectives photographed the damage.

Neighbors said they had never seen anything like it on their street. One resident who has lived there more than 21 years said nothing of this kind had happened before.

The homeowner pleaded for the violence to stop, urging young people to put the guns down.
