Virginia Gardens Mayor Spencer Deno is seeking another term in the November election, pitching his more than two decades in office as proof of his record. Deno, who was born and raised in the village, said he has helped bring in more than $10 million in federal, state and local money for projects.
Deno said much of that funding has gone to infrastructure, including work on flooding problems in the village of just over 2,300 people near Miami International Airport. He also touted that the village is debt-free.
His challenger, Tim Boylan, is a longtime resident and business owner in the marine industry who has never held elected office. Boylan said rising costs are his main concern, noting that prices are going up and living in the village is getting more expensive. He said he wants residents to bring him their issues so he can address them once in office.
Early voting begins Oct. 19. Election Day is Nov. 3.
