A robbery of a pizza delivery driver in Lake Worth Beach led to a police chase and a fatal deputy-involved shooting on Jog Road in Boynton Beach on Tuesday, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office identified the man who was shot as Gregory Dobkins. Authorities said the incident started Monday night in Lake Worth Beach, when Dobkins allegedly robbed a Domino’s delivery driver of cash.
A neighbor, Nicole Burrill, was sitting on her front porch along North K Street when she heard yelling. She said the driver chased the man through her flower bed, and the two struggled in her yard. Two packages were dropped on her lawn, including a small pizza box and breadsticks.
Deputies found Dobkins’ truck the next morning, the sheriff’s office said. He did not stop, and the chase ended in a crash on Jog Road. Deputies pursued him on foot, and gunfire broke out moments later. Dobkins died at the scene. He was unarmed, and his record includes a 2003 arrest and a robbery conviction that sent him to prison about 20 years ago.
The delivery driver hurt his hamstring in the struggle and is recovering, according to coworkers at Domino’s. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
