Pembroke Park Mayor Geoffrey Jacobs testified Monday morning before Broward Circuit Court Judge Shari Africk-Olefson in a hearing on whether he can keep his seat. The town is seeking his removal, arguing he does not live in the city as its charter requires.
Attorneys for the town say Jacobs moved into a Fort Pierce home in 2025. They point to a mortgage that requires him to live there for a year, a homestead exemption filed on that St. Lucie County address, and vehicle insurance tied to the same property. Town attorney Michael Garcia said the paperwork shows Jacobs intended to live in Fort Pierce, not Pembroke Park.
Jacobs has said the Fort Pierce house was his wife’s permanent address. He told 7News in February that his permanent address is a mobile home off Hallandale Beach Boulevard in Broward. He also said he and his wife have been harassed at that home, and that his wife and children moved out of the county for safety reasons while he stayed behind.
His wife, Angela Jacobs, testified that he lives in Pembroke Park. Jacobs’s attorney, Michael Pizzi, said his client has never lived anywhere else. When Garcia asked whether the couple had lived apart, Jacobs said, “Not until recently,” and declined to say whether that would continue.
Judge Africk-Olefson will review the testimony and documents before ruling, which is expected sometime next week.
