Runners and families gathered at Pine Trails Park in Parkland on the morning of Oct. 11 for the Parkland Dash, a community race with a one-mile run, a 5K (3.1 miles) and a five-mile race. Money raised from the event went to Tomorrow’s Rainbow, which uses the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association model. According to the organization’s website, the group uses horses for therapy.

Several local runners placed in their divisions. Parkland resident Greg Tyshynski finished second overall among men in the 5K. His wife, Dana Lynn Kaye, ran a booth for her company, Devotion Nutrition, one of the event’s sponsors. Their 14-year-old daughter, Bijou Kaye, also ran the 5K.

Mark Parrott of Coral Springs took third in the 5K in the 44-49 age group, and his daughter earned second in the 11-14 age group. Chris Kelly of Coral Springs finished second overall in the five-mile race. He said he is training for a marathon in Sarasota and the Boston Marathon. Kendra Warren of Tamarac won the women’s 40-44 age group in the five-mile run.

After the race, runners, family and friends stayed for a social gathering at the park.
