The Tampa General Mass General Brigham Cancer Center in Palm Beach Gardens is offering breast cancer patients the latest in radiation technology, according to WPBF 25 News. The center opened in August 2026 and already sees 40 to 50 patients a day.
Dr. Eugene Shieh, the East Coast clinical medical director for the cancer center, showed the station its TrueBeam radiotherapy system. Shieh said the system includes imaging that lets staff see a patient’s anatomy for precise setup, and a monitoring tool that tracks breathing so patients can hold their breath during treatment to keep the heart out of the beam.
Shieh said the newer equipment targets affected tissue more accurately. In older treatments, he said, nearby skin, lungs and the heart could receive unnecessary dose, particularly for left-breast patients.
Shieh said the changes can reduce long-term side effects and shorten treatment. A few years ago, most breast patients were treated five to seven weeks, he said, while many now finish in five days or a few weeks. The center is a full-service adult radiation oncology facility, treating all types of cancer, and the health system plans to expand radiation and oncology services across Palm Beach County.
