Two New Orleans rap labels are bringing their throwback tour to Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise on Nov. 6. No Limit Records and Cash Money Records are performing together on the road, and the label founders say the shows have been selling out across the country.
No Limit founder Percy Miller, known as Master P, said the tour is a sign that the music still draws new fans about three decades after the labels rose to prominence. He credited his upbringing in the New Orleans projects and said the label sold 100 million records.
The two labels reshaped the music industry in the late 1990s, showing that independent artists could own their master recordings, run national distribution deals and reach the top of the Billboard charts without a major label. Master P said younger listeners are finding the catalog online, pointing to fans who sing along and shout the “uh” ad-libs from the records.
Master P listed recent stops in Houston, Atlanta, Indiana, Detroit and Dallas. He said the group was coming to Miami to “turn up” one more time. The source article does not list ticket prices or showtimes.
