The nationwide No Kings movement is returning to South Florida this Saturday, Oct. 17, but its focus has moved from protesting President Donald Trump to getting people to the polls. The event, called “No Kings: Vote Early,” comes two days before early voting begins in parts of the region and about two weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Unlike earlier rallies that opposed Trump’s policies and what organizers describe as authoritarian overreach, this round is being promoted as nonpartisan. Organizers want eligible voters to make a plan, learn their voting options and cast ballots early. Planned activities across South Florida range from rallies and voter outreach to volunteers holding signs on highway overpasses.
Broward County’s first day of early voting is Oct. 19. Some overpass groups have been asked to keep messaging strictly nonpartisan and to focus on that date.
One sign-holding event is set for the 147th Street pedestrian overpass on I-95 near Biscayne Gardens K-8 Academy in Miami Gardens, at 525 NW 147th St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Costumes are allowed, but bullhorns are not, according to the event listing.
Later that day, Supernatural Haus, at 777 NE 79th St., and Rock the Vote will host live music, educational programs, art and guest speakers from 4 to 9:30 p.m. The event is 18 and older.
