The nationwide “No Kings” movement returned to South Florida on Saturday with events in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties. This time, the focus was on getting people to vote rather than only to protest.
Organizers called the effort “No Kings: Vote Early.” They said more than 1,500 events were planned in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., including rallies, neighborhood gatherings, voter registration drives, group walks to polling places and workshops on election protection.
In Miami-Dade, events were spread across the county, from North Miami to El Portal and Coral Gables. Demonstrators planned to hold signs on a pedestrian overpass near I-95 in the late morning and early afternoon, and a Miami event was scheduled for the late afternoon and evening with live music, art and guest speakers.
Broward held gatherings in Coral Springs, Lauderhill, Wilton Manors, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and Miramar, most in the morning and early afternoon. Palm Beach County events were set for Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach and Wellington, running from midmorning into the afternoon. Monroe County had a morning event in Key Largo.
Early voting in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties begins Monday, Oct. 19, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
