Monarch, Coconut Creek and Lyons Creek runners compete at county meet

Monarch, Coconut Creek High and Lyons Creek Middle runners raced in the county cross country championships at Markham Park on Friday.

Runners from Monarch, Coconut Creek High School and Lyons Creek Middle School competed Friday in the County Cross Country Championships at Markham Park.

The top local result came from Monarch’s Veronika Hrbacova, who finished second in the junior varsity girls’ race in 24:25.75. Monarch’s boys were led by Logan Pomeroy, who placed 28th in 23:28.71. Elyjah Modira took 35th for the Monarch boys, with Landon Kerlegrand, Jeffrey Mathieu, Garidson Jean-Marie and Ethan Beaubrun also running.

Coconut Creek High was led by Jadiel Rosa, who finished 51st in 27:16.77. Justin Cruz Garcia, Wilmer Jesus Santelises, Nathan Dehave and Jason Octavious completed the boys’ lineup. Brendy Moise placed 38th in the girls’ race.

At the middle school level, Mia Lerner led Lyons Creek with a 68th-place finish in the girls’ race. Fonte Thomas, Brayden Schneider and Francisco Gonzalez ran for the Lyons Creek boys.

The meet gives students from several Broward schools a chance to compete against top county runners ahead of the season’s later events.
