Miami International Airport is adding nonstop service to Belgrade, Serbia, and pursuing more international and domestic routes, airport officials said. Air Serbia plans to begin flights to Belgrade on May 20, 2027, marking the airline’s third U.S. destination. American Airlines plans to start service to Barcelona, Venezuela, on Jan. 15, 2027.
Ralph Cutié, the airport’s director and CEO, said the air service development team spent about five years working to secure the Belgrade route. “We were finally able to make it happen,” he said.
American added flights this year from Miami to Jackson, Mississippi, and Bimini, Bahamas, and resumed service to Milan. Icelandair, Aer Lingus and SAS returned with seasonal flights to Iceland, Ireland and Denmark in October. American resumed daily flights to Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, on Nov. 1. Porter Airlines plans seasonal service to Ottawa in November, and United Airlines plans a nonstop route to Cleveland on Dec. 3.
The airport is also exploring routes to Asunción, Paraguay; Brussels; Vienna; and New Delhi, along with possible service in Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa. A shortage of long-range aircraft remains a hurdle for a proposed nonstop to Tokyo.
MIA is served by 92 airlines and ranks second in the U.S. for international passengers. It has topped 55 million annual passengers for two straight years. Projections call for about 77 million passengers and more than 5 million tons of cargo a year by 2040.
