Residents of Miami-Dade County can now visit Wynwood Walls for free, thanks to a partnership with Rockstar Games, the publisher of “Grand Theft Auto VI.” The offer started Tuesday, Oct. 13, and runs through 2028. Visitors must show a valid photo ID with a Miami-Dade address.
The partnership ties the museum to the upcoming game. Vice City, the game’s fictional version of Miami, includes a district called Stockyard that is based on Wynwood. Ten new murals commissioned for the game are now on view, some inside Wynwood Walls and others spread across the surrounding neighborhood. They will stay up through Jan. 1, 2027.
The mural project was produced by Goldman Global Arts, the creative collective founded by Wynwood Walls curator Jessica Goldman Srebnick. Artists include Miami-based Atomik and Tatiana Suarez, along with international names such as Ron English, Faile and Tristan Eaton. Wynwood Walls said the game also features art from other street and tattoo artists, selected by the Detroit-based agency 1XRUN.
A capsule merchandise line based on in-game art from 15 artists is available for preorder through the Wynwood Walls online shop. Items include water bottles, shirts, flasks, caps and keychains.
For local readers, the project offers a chance to see Wynwood’s street art before the game’s release on Nov. 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Gamers have also wondered how Rockstar would portray Vice City and Leonida, the fictional state modeled on Florida. The involvement of local artists may offer some early answers.
