The Miami Beach Botanical Garden, a 3-acre tropical space at 2000 Convention Center Drive, is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, except some holidays. Admission is free. The garden previously charged $5 per person plus a $1.94 fee.

On Sunday, Oct. 11, the garden hosts two free events. From 10 a.m. to noon, “Boo-tanical Garden: A Gnome & Fairy Garden Adventure” invites visitors to walk the winding paths and make Halloween-themed crafts for kids and adults. Local artist Christina Pettersson will join with shadow puppet images of local plants and animals. Costumes are welcome. From noon to 1 p.m., Fantasy Theatre Factory presents “Little Monster Tales,” a family show that uses music, comedy and puppets to bring children’s books about monsters to life. Both events require a free RSVP.

The grounds include water features, a native garden, an edible garden with starfruit, papaya and pomegranates, a Japanese garden with a red bridge, and a main pond with water lilies. The city park was created in 1962 and redone in 2011 as part of a $1.2 million landscape project designed by South Florida landscape architect Raymond Jungles.
