Construction is underway on a new preschool in Margate, and its owner already has plans to grow the school into elementary grades. Dr. Lisa Louis, owner of University Academy in North Lauderdale, led a groundbreaking in early October for a 7,600-square-foot school building at 830 South State Road 7.
Louis hopes the building will be ready for students by fall 2027. Once it opens, she plans to add an elementary program starting with kindergarten through second grade.
The school will serve children ages six weeks through five. Louis also plans an afterschool program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, with pick-up from local schools. She said the afterschool program will be offered in Margate.
Louis, a certified Broward County school teacher, said the school will teach arts and crafts, Spanish and Haitian Creole, along with English and math.
For Margate families, the project adds a new option for early education and before- and after-school care in a city that has few such choices close to home. Parents who want to follow the timeline can watch for enrollment details as the building nears completion.
