Coral Springs High School senior Marcus Gentilhomme won the Coral Springs area boys’ cross-country championship on October 13 at Tradewinds Park. The meet had been postponed because of severe weather.
Gentilhomme said his legs were sore before the start, but he went out to win and did. He said he is looking forward to the upcoming district competition.
Coral Glades High School’s Tyler Cline placed second. Cline said he ran slower over the first two miles and picked up the pace in the final mile. Coral Glades teammate Fabio Castillo finished fourth. Coral Glades Coach Frankie Cunningham said the team has been practicing hard and expects to do well at districts.
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas team took first place as a team, ahead of Coral Glades in second, Taravella in third and Coral Springs Charter in fourth. Coral Springs High did not send a full team. MSD Coach Mike Mauro said the meet served as a measuring stick before the state qualifying meets.
